A Day in Deep Creek Hot Springs
Those who enjoy a brisk walk may last about 45 minutes, Deep Creek Hot Springs is a perfect place to be. Deep Creek Hot Springs is located southeast of the city of Hesperia and is within the federal lands of San Bernardino National Forest. The hot springs are found in some outcrops fascinating rock where the stream makes a sharp bend around the end of a ridge. The thermal water is clear and not smell of sulfur. Its output temperature of the earth is over 100 degrees which is then passed seven man soaking pools adjacent a stream that flows annually.
To get to Deep Creek Hot Springs of the greater Los Angeles region, Take Interstate 15 north to Hesperia. Exit at Bear Valley Road and travel east for almost 10 miles to Central Road. Turn right onto Central and 3 miles south Ocotillo Way and turn left. Then go 2.3 miles to Bowen Ranch Road. Turn right (south) and continue an additional 6 miles to Bowen Ranch. Bowen Ranch is private land that lies just north of the shortest route National Forest (1.1 miles long) to the hot springs.
There is an entrance fee and a payment short drive to a parking space. A photocopy of a map of Deep Creek is also provided. From the parking area leads to the national reserve of thermal water after trailhead of a hike of half a mile, down from 160 feet altitude. The national forest trailhead starts at a high altitude desert of 4,220 feet. During a walk of 1.1 miles, descend to an altitude of 3720 feet. At this point, you're about 700 feet away from the hot springs, but you are standing on end a crest of 200 feet with a view to their destination. From here, most hikers choose to take the steep, direct route of sand and slippery. However, if you want a safer route you can follow a path on the west side of the ridge, but the distance is about double.
If you are in the strange kind of adventure many take this tour wearing their birthday suits – ie, completely naked. Not only is allowed, but some hikers do custom that, but of course there are those who do not have much guts and by chance you can find some of them and that includes me.
On the way to the docks, passes through the cleaning brushes, so if you take a trip naked hanging fruit inadequate care can not get some as attentionJ welcome. Sure to use sunscreen or not to do in the summer. Near the docks in the bush becomes shade trees and green vegetation along the stream. The thermal waters are on the opposite side of the creek cold range, which is several feet deep. After fording the cold stream, which can be very cold, leave a few minutes for your body recover from the cold before plunging into the hot springs to avoid temperature shock. The water is so relaxing and said to be therapeutic.
No camping during night allowed near the creek so decided to leave early before the fall of darkness. The walk back will be about double the time spent going to the baths because this time will be an uphill climb back to Bowen Ranch. But Deep Creek Hot Springs is definitely the best of its kind in the Southwest. Enjoy!
