What does gold symbolize in the novel "The Scarlet Letter" by Nathaniel Hawthorne?
What the color itself is symbolized in the novel and then what are some examples from the book to prove this? All I can find the gold would Scarlet Letter thread and yarn in red / red pearl dress later in the story. I'm not sure that gold symbolizes / represents though.
I just I finished reading this book about 2 weeks ago and I honestly I can not remember the golden color of being part of a theme, besides the examples given. Using those examples I would the gold with red and later set Hester Pearl apart from other Puritan society. Although intended to be used as a symbol of sin, Hester made lace the letter "A" in gold thread, which makes it very beautiful. On the other hand, Hester, a seamstress, a teacher, does nothing to conceal the beauty of his daughter. In his Instead, it creates lovely dresses for the rich setting.
