How do I fit a new rear deraillure to an old road bike?


Hi, I have an old Viking road bike frame, Its early 80s i recon. But Its now a single-speed bike. I now would like to put gears on to it. the only thing standing in my way is the rear derailleur. The bike has horizontal dropouts, but no derailleur mounting hole. Does anybody know what type of hanger to get? or is this even possible?!

If there’s no dereaillure hanger built onto your frame, you’ll need to get a derailleur with a hanger built in. These are typically lower end ones like tourney etc. They have a tab and slot built in that you put behind the nut of the drive side of your wheel. This holds it in place.
